Why a plate search costs more
The PPSR has no plate search — it accepts a VIN, a chassis number or a manufacturer's number and nothing else. A plate has to be matched to a vehicle first, through the national registration database. That lookup has a cost of its own, and it is the difference between the two prices.
When you pay, and what's free
You pay when you order. The price covers one search, and everything below costs nothing extra:
- Trying a corrected plate, state or VIN on the same payment if the first one finds no vehicle — up to three attempts in all.
- Resending your report, including to a corrected email address.
- Finance-change alerts for 14 days after your search, where finance is recorded against the vehicle.†
If PPSR maintenance or a technical issue means your report isn't delivered, you can have a refund; once your report has been delivered, it isn't refunded. See the Refund Policy for the full position.
Do I need the SMS?
No. Every search is emailed, and the report link in that email does everything the text does. The SMS is for people who are standing in a driveway with a seller waiting, and want the answer on the screen in their hand rather than buried in an inbox.
How to pay
Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Card details are handled by our payment provider and never reach our servers.
* Delivery time. Reports are issued within minutes while the Personal Property Securities Register is available. The register has scheduled maintenance windows, set out in our Terms & Conditions. A search requested during a maintenance window is issued as soon as the register reopens.
† Free finance-change alerts. Where finance (a security interest) is recorded against the vehicle at your search, for 14 days we check with the PPSR every hour whether those details have changed, and tell you if they have. Where no finance is recorded, there are no alerts. The PPSR doesn't say what changed; a new search, at the normal price, shows the current details. Stolen and written-off records are not included.
