What's included
Everything the old REVS check told you, from today's national register. The same complete picture whether you searched by plate or VIN, and whatever the vehicle: car, ute, motorbike, truck, caravan or trailer.
-
Money owing
Security interests registered against the vehicle, including the secured party's name and contact details. If the seller still owes money, the lender can repossess the car from you.
-
Written off
NEVDIS write-off notifications — statutory and repairable — plus flood and collision damage records reported by any state authority.
-
Stolen
Police theft records covering the vehicle itself, the number plates and the engine number.
-
Registration
The state or territory of registration, the plate on record and the registration expiry date.
-
Vehicle details
Make, model, body type, colour, year of manufacture, compliance date and engine number.
-
Official certificate
A PPSR search certificate as a PDF — your legal proof the search was made.
If you remember the old REVS check
A REVS certificate told you whether a vehicle was encumbered — that is, whether money was owed on it. The national register calls the same thing a security interest, and your report shows it as “money owing”, with the lender's details. Written-off and stolen records now come from NEVDIS, the national vehicle database, so they cover every state rather than just one.
Why the certificate matters
The certificate is not a receipt. Under the Personal Property Securities Act 2009, a buyer who searched the register before buying is in a very different position from one who did not. If a financier later claims an interest in the vehicle, the certificate is the document that establishes what the register said at the moment you searched, with the date and time on it.
We send it exactly as the register issues it. We do not reformat it, restyle it, or put our own branding on it.
What a check does not tell you
A PPSR check is a records search, not an inspection. It will not tell you whether the clutch is going, whether the service history is genuine, or whether the odometer has been wound back. Those need a mechanical inspection and the vehicle's service records.
It also reports what is on the register at the moment of the search. A finance interest registered tomorrow will not appear in a search run today, so search as close as possible to paying for the vehicle. Where finance is already recorded at your search, we include free finance-change alerts for 14 days: we ask the PPSR every hour whether it has changed, and tell you if it has (a new search shows the current details).†
How it reaches you
Always by email: the plain-English summary, the certificate attached as a PDF, and a report link that works for 30 days and shows whether the finance has changed since your search.
Optionally by SMS as well, free at checkout. One text with the headline answer — finance, stolen, written off — and the link. If the finance changes in the 14 days after your search, you get a second text. Australian mobiles only; reply STOP to opt out at any time.
Every vehicle type
The register covers any vehicle with a VIN or chassis number: cars, utes, vans, motorbikes, trucks, buses, caravans, campervans, trailers and boat trailers. Plant and machinery with a serial number are also registrable, though a plate search will not reach them.
* Delivery time. Reports are issued within minutes while the Personal Property Securities Register is available. The register has scheduled maintenance windows, set out in our Terms & Conditions. A search requested during a maintenance window is issued as soon as the register reopens.
† Free finance-change alerts. Where finance (a security interest) is recorded against the vehicle at your search, for 14 days we check with the PPSR every hour whether those details have changed, and tell you if they have. Where no finance is recorded, there are no alerts. The PPSR doesn't say what changed; a new search, at the normal price, shows the current details. Stolen and written-off records are not included.
